hot & cold.

It’s March, which means that we’re on the cusp of Spring. As much as I’d love to wear pastels and neons and florals and sundresses everyday, the weather isn’t exactly ideal.

I’m currently inspired with the concept of pairing softer spring trends (the aforementioned: pastels, neons and florals) with harsher winter textures (leather, fur, knits).

if you need me, i’ll be watching annie hall and listening to jay-z….

Hey babes.

Ugh. Sorry for the unintentional hiatus ESPECIALLY during the most important month of the year - Fall Fashion Week(s) in NY, London, Milan and Paris. Actually, i was IN Manhattan during the heart of fashion week. All wide eyed and dreamy!

Unfortunately, we didn’t see much action, other than spotting an Amazonian model just leaving a show on the Subway in the Meatpacking District…But still, I couldn’t help but plot my future in the city with my man friend in tow ADMIRE what a beautiful and inspiring place New York is. I spent Monday morning walking up 5th from the Ace Hotel, to Eataly on 23rd up to Magnolia Bakery on 59th slowing but surely falling in love with that the energy that city possesses.

Sunset on the Highline.

Upon returning and perusing through street style photos from Fashion Week in NY, I had this dramatic bond with each image, like “oh, I was there that day” and “ha! I remember that weather…”. I love how photos from fashion week are so clearly stamped with the personality of New York, and it’s making them that much more inspirational to me right now. I realize how pathetic this is making me sound, so I’ll stop. I promise I’m not planning on moving anytime REALLY soon. But before recapping any favorite shows, why NOT share some favorite street style images from Fashion Week?? Just know I was there…

.

Coming up next: the shows. Until then….keep dreaming. xoxo.

A Girl Can Dream

Last night the annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund dinner was held in NYC. Billy Reid, an Alabama based designer, was granted the dream of a $300,000 grant and a mentorship with a leading industry designer. I was surprised Prabal Gurung, who was a runner up, didn’t win the top award. Regardless, so many fabulous and fabulously dressed people were in attendance. While on the red carpet, Carey Mulligan got the phone call to play Daisy Buchanan opposite of Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby in Baz Luhrmann’s addaptation of The Great Gatsby. Rumor has it, she burst into tears at the news.

EEK! Carey AND Leo AND The Great Gatsby. This will SURELY be my new favorite movie! The anticipation! Favorite actor. Favorite up and coming actress. One of my favorite books. Absolute dream.

Karl Lagerfeld and Blake Lively (in Chanel)

Sam Shipley and Jeff Halmos of the preppy British men’s label Shipley and Halmos looking dapper with the lead singer of Grizzly Bear

Carey Mulligan (in Chanel Haute Couture) and Leighton Meester (in Prabal Gurung)

J. Crew’s Jenna Lyons. Can’t say I personally love the camo pants, but I love the mix of the fur, sequins and camo. Texture overload- and its good.

Essence of class- Miss Diane Von Furstenberg.

Alexa Chung making a statement in shorts and a button up.

In other dreams…Kate Middleton was granted quite the dream of her own. The royal couple officially announced their engagement, meaning that one day, the middle-class-born Middleton will surely be the queen of England. If that’s not a fairy tale, I dare you to tell me what is.

I would love to see her in an Oscar de La Renta couture gown. Time will tell. But oh, how exciting!

The lovely Princess Diana in 1981, wearing a traditional ivory silk taffeta gown with a 25 foot train and 10,000 pearls designed by British designer Elizabeth Emanuel.

The Fabulous Life of Jenna Lyons

First thing’s first. I want this ENTIRE outfit. Literally…the gray cable knit socks with the black cage sandals and cuffed jeans. EEEEK. And that scarf! AND HER CHANEL SATCHEL.

I’m done. You can see from the picture (posted on Garance Dore) that she has incredible style, which is a completely obvious statement considering she is the Creative Director of J Crew…

After some serious research, I found these photos she did in an interview with Domino. Check out her New York home:

The dining room is a little too cold for my taste, but it’s still a beautiful home. The dogwood tree in her backyard is beautiful, and I ADORE the fireplace in her dressing room.

[Sidenote: When do you become accomplished enough to graduate from a closet to a dressing room? And how do I get to that point? Anyone?]
